Sorry for the Game of Thrones reference. Couldn’t help myself.
It is true though. Winter is coming. It feels more like it, with today being so gloomy, rainy and cold.
As I type this, I’m looking out my dining room window at the pile of Black Walnuts we have raked up waiting to be hauled away. Looking at the fruit trees that I need to prune.
This has me thinking of all the little things we tend to totally forget to check on all together, before the snow starts to pile up.
Like the tiny spot of daylight, I can see at the bottom corner of the doorway. The seal has come loose and there’s a small spot, maybe 1/4 inch wide, where light actually makes it through.
Really, a mouse could fit through that if they wanted to brave coming inside.
If I see a mouse inside this house, I panic. I HATE MICE! I’m not scared of them; I just despise the germs and who knows what that they haul in with them! I despise the idea of tiny chew marks on whatever is inside my pantry! I despise finding tiny poops that look like chocolate sprinkle candies on the pantry shelf! YUCK!
Yes, this has happened. Last winter someone left the backdoor open and I guess two mice decided it would be much warmer to winter INSIDE our home rather than stay where they belonged!
I bought traps of every kind, set them up everywhere. Going down to the basement (Where they were spoted taking refuge.) looked like a mine field to walk through.
I even tried getting the Beagles to smell their trail but of course since it wasn’t a rabbit, they didn’t give a shit.
EARN YOUR KEEP DOGS! LOL
After a couple of weeks, we did catch both mice and have not seen any signs of any after that. (Trust me,,,, I check often!)
I don’t want to deal with cleaning a litter box but if it means having a cat here to protect our home from Mice, I’ll gladly clean a litter box! LOL
Plus, I do like cats. If it’s a nice cat.
Though, Paul refuses this simple request of mine.
What happened to ‘Happy wife, happy life!?’
I do know myself, if I could pull that card I’d have a mini donkey, a couple pigs, a couple cute pygmy goats, bee hives, and my small herd of Scottish highlanders! Not to mention a greenhouse and quail in one end of that greenhouse. 🙂 It would never end.
Hell, I’d run a whole petting zoo if I could!
A GIRL CAN DREAM! LOL
Poor Paul. Poor, poor Paul, stuck with an animal loving farmers daughter who constantly puts too much on her plate then requires his backup for help. Over and over again.
OMG Winter! I’ve gotten off subject! (Pretty normal for me)
Anyhoo, what does everyone else out there do to make sure you accomplish all that needs to be done before the snow starts flying?
**For those of you who don’t get snow and don’t need to worry about this issue…… How lucky for you. (Sarcastic Yay!) Yet I feel bad, a White Christmas is so beautiful! I would miss it too much. 🙂
No matter what I try, Lists, phone reminders, etc. I always end up forgetting at least a few little things. Last year we picked up the walnuts that did grow, but didn’t get them hauled away. They’re sitting there in a barrel, just waiting to be added to the pile to go from this year. Geez! They even have a couple baby trees growing in them!
I have a few perennials I wanted to move but if I don’t get time I can always do that in the spring.
I’ll have to write up a ‘To Do’ list again.
Part of that problem is, as much as I like going off of a list to make sure it all gets done, the rest of my family HATES it.
They hate lists and I swear they throw them out on me. Or it gets moved and I lose it, then I forget it until a few weeks later. Then I’m pissed because I just remembered all the things I wanted to have done from the list that I lost. ugh.
I feel like this post could very easily be tied back to my ‘Am I crazy’ post.
Damn.
I guess it doesn’t matter. Because I’ll be friggin’ crazy as soon as I start to work on my ‘To Do’ list and am bouncing around from one thing to another and soon have four different chores halfway finished before realizing I need to go back and actually finish the first thing I had started.
Thus is the definition of my life! HA!
I can imagine some of you asking, “Does this chick have ADD?”
To answer that, I don’t think so, maybe. Well, I was never diagnosed with it. I did have some testing done because of my PCS and ADD can commonly happen after multiple concussions and saw a different Neurologist (Who supposedly had a LOT of experience with patients with multiple concussions) to discuss everything. But that Doctor said no I don’t. Though, he also said my short term memory issues is just due to me getting older (AT 45!), and he also said Post Concussion Syndrome doesn’t last more than 4 years, and that all my problems are stemmed from me being depressed and he thinks I should be medicated for depression and all my problems would magically be solved.
Yeah, he was an idiot. What experience he’s had was obviously extremely limited if not just made up.
(For the record, there are a lot of people in the Post Concussion Support Group dealing with Persistent Post Concussion Syndrome for over 20 years! They don’t even consider it ‘Persistent PCS’ until you are 5 years out!
No offense to any Neurologists out there who may read this, but this guy made me lose ALL hope in Neurologists whatsoever. I refuse to go back there.
My new PCP is doing a much better job and she’s a Nurse Practitioner. Who actually read my whole chart history.
But,, back to it yet again! MAYBE I have ADD. IF you ask my family, they will swear I do have ADD and OCD. LOL
What do they know, they only live with me. Ha!
That’s it for this gloomy day.
Take care of yourselves.
*Hugs*
